community policing - ANS-partnership between the police and the local community that
identifies strategies to reduce crime , increase traffic safety & deal with all other public safety
problems
order maintenance - ANS-The police handling of incidents that are not crimes but public
nuisance matters about which police officer uses discretion to decide a course of action
storefront office - ANS-a temporary office located in a business office or shopping center where
the police officer conducts routine business
schoolfront office - ANS-a temporary office located in a school where the police officer conducts
routine business. schools that have a regular police school resource officer are not considered
schoolfront offices
neighborhood office - ANS-a temporary office located in a neighborhood, usually an
apartment/business office complex where the plice officer conducts routine business
youth gang - ANS-a self-formed association of peers having 4 characteristics 1) 3-or more
members generally ages 12-24 2) a name & some sense of identify, generally indicated by such
symbols as style of clothing, graffiti, tatoos & hand signs 3) some degree of permanence &
organization and 4) an elevated level of involvement in delinquent or criminalactivity
mental illness - ANS-a mental health disorder characterized by alterations in thinking or mood or
behavior associated with distress and /or impaired functioning
psychotic episode - ANS-a period of time when a person with a serious mental illness is
impaired and at risk of endangering himself or herself,or others.
