Fun HW #8

1) Psychoanalysis was the first major psychological therapy that was discovered by
Sigmund Freud. The aim of this form of therapy was to help humans bring their feelings
into awareness. As a result of helping people recall their thoughts and feelings, and
giving them advice on their disorders, the therapist could help the person out. Some
techniques of client-centered therapy include analysis of dreams, freely talking with the
client, and letting whatever word comes to mind doe the client when they are face to
face with their therapist. The goal of Carl Rogers’ client-centered therapy was for people
to understand their imperfections and accept that it’s a part of who they are as a person.
Some other goal was to let them focus on what’s to come and not what happened in the
past. Some techniques of this therapy include listening carefully to the client’s details
and providing them with a show of empathy.

2) A fear that I have learned was using the elevators. As a young kid, I always feared getting
stuck in an elevator or the elevator belt snapping. Over time I had gotten used to using
them in my daily life and felt slowly comfortable. Classical conditioning had a part
because I was stuck before in an elevator, so this fear carried over to me for future uses
with any elevators.

3) Depressive disorders and bipolar disorders differ mostly in their symptoms. Usually,
depressive disorders have symptoms of low self-esteem and hopelessness for 2 weeks or
more, while symptoms of bipolar disorders include the up-and-down feeling of
depression and acting crazy for long periods. Student life has made me feel anxious due
to the many assignments, tests time management, and the feeling of having no time left
over for personal purposes. Some advice I would have for new students will be to always
be aware of your time and have good time management, there is no time for
procrastination in life.

4) Researchers evaluate the effectiveness of drug therapies by using a procedure called a
double-blind procedure. In this procedure, half of the experiments are given the drug,
and the other half will be given a placebo claiming it’s a drug. To prevent any inaccurate
results both the people participating in the experiment nor the researcher doesn’t know
