A) What was the influence of nomadic peoples on civilized societies?
Nomads introduced new cultures and beliefs into the already established civilized
societies. Pastoral nomads depended on hunting gathering and farming. On occasion they
would overthrow settled communities and establish empires through them.
B) What were the cultural and economic accomplishments of the Phoenicians?
The Phonecians built ships and became international sea traders they created a trade
empire, charting sea routes not only across the mediterranean but also through the atlantic
where they reached britain and sailed south down the west african coast. They set up colonies
around the mediterranean, carthage was their most well known colony. The phonecian culture is
best known for their alphabet, which consisted of 22 different signs to represent their sounds of
speech. These letters were the basis of many languages today.
C) What was the lasting influence of the Israelites?
The religion that they followed, judaism served as the basis for christianity and islam.
Many of the israelites’s history and beliefs were written in the hebrew bible. They lived in the
desert for about 200 years from 1200 bc to 1000 bc. They formed into organized tribes and
established a united kingdom known as israel. They built a temple in jerusalem which served as
a religious center for much of the israelite kingdom.
D) What made the religion of Israel unique among the religions of western Asia and Egypt?
After the death of solomon the tension in israel’s tribes led to the creation of 2 separate
kingdoms the kingdom of israel was composed of 10 northern tribes and had its capital at
samaria. The jewish people belive in one god making them monotheistic they believed that god
rules all and that people are his servants according to them whoever follows the word of god will
have a personal relationship with him.
E) How did the Minoans interact with other ancient civilizations?
The minoan people were not considered to be greek but they greatly influenced the
people of the greek mainland they have a palace at crete they traded pottery gold and silvery
jewlery along with this they received inspiration from other cultures this helped them to improve
the goods that they produced. The minoans were a sea based society with an empire stretching
into egypt and even southern greece.
