Name:
OL Lab 6: Reproductive Cells
Learning objectives:
• Identify the process of gametogenesis.
• Describe the differences between mitosis and meiosis,
The reproductive system plays a critical role in the continuance of humans as a species. Each
human will have a set of gametes, sex cells, that can come together through the process of
fertilization to create offspring. In this simulation, you will be observing gametes under the
virtual microscope to determine some of the characteristics that will differentiate sperm from
ova. In addition, you will be revisiting the concepts of mitosis and meiosis from previous classes
as these will play a pivotal role in the development of gametes.
Part 1: Complete Labster- Exploring Human Reproductive Cells
Part 2: Report and Reflection
Purpose: Describe in your own words and in complete sentences, the purpose of this
experiment. (1 point)
The purpose of this experiment was to show the difference between mitosis and meiosis and
shows the difference between the stages of each cycle.
Observations: List 2 observations you have made in this simulation. (2 points)
The two observations I made were Mitosis and Meiosis. Mitosis is the result of the production of
two identical daughter cells for growth, tissue repair, and asexual reproduction. Whereas
Meiosis produces four genetically unique daughter cells called gametes, sperm, or egg. These
are used in sexual reproduction.
Answer all the questions below:
1. What is a gamete? (2 points)
