Interpretation of WISC-V
1st step - Answer-Spell out name of the test (i.e. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - 5th ed). Then,
figure out if you report FSIQ or GAI. WMI + PSI together make the CPI (Cognitive Proficiency Index).
Whether to report CPI in the first paragraph is up to your client's performance.
New Rule - Answer-Compare WMI + PSI (path variables) if you see significant discrepancy (i.e., > 23
points) between these 2 or between WMI + PSI and FSIQ or between WMI + PSI and any of those 3 core
intelligence index (VSI, FRI, VCI); then report GAI and CPI.
Any significant differences, then report GAI + CPI in the 1st paragraph. Still report FSIQ, but don't need
to give the cautious statement. But if you see any of the conditions that we just discussed, you report
GAI + CPI.
2nd Step - Answer-one paragraph for each of the indexes (VSI, FRI, PSI, VCI, WMI). If there is no
significant within index discrepancy, you focus on the index level. Discuss what this index intends to
measure, but don't need to focus on subtests. If you see a significant discrepancy within the index, you
discuss performance on the subtest level (standard score and % rank of the subtests).
3rd step - Answer-2 Types of Personal Strengths & Weakness at the Index level
1. Relative Strengths results based on pairwise comparisons. Compare 2 indexes and say compared to
this index, this appeared to be stronger.
2. Compare particular index against the average of all the indexes.
Include normative strengths and weaknesses (+/- 1 SD above norm; 3 pts for subtest & 15 pts for index).
