abdominal thrusts on Conscious Resident - Answer-Ask actor " Are you choking?" Identifies two
symptoms, holding neck and not being able to speak, brings actor to standing position and Yelling HELP,
STAND BEHIND RESIDENT WRAP ARMS AROUND WAIST, MAKE FIST WITH ONE HAND AND COVER WITH
OTHER WITH THUMB SLIGHTLY ABOVE NAVEL AND STERNUM, VERBALIZE WITHH TRY 3 times, upward
thrusts, "stops ask actor if he or she is still choking, state you would repeat the process 3 more times or
until they lose conscience, physically put actor in lateral recovery postion
ambulation with gait belt - Answer-knock, introduce, wash hands, explain procedure, pull privacy
curtain, locks bed and wheel chair brakes, put non skid shoes on, put gait belt on, verbalize two fingers .
lower bed where residents feet are comfortably on the floor, bring resident to standing position, (use
proper body mechanics, with one hand grasping the gait and holding forearm or shoulder, ambulates
resident 10 steps, assists resident to pivot, courtesy, open privacy curtain, call light and wash hands
ambulation with walker to wheelchair - Answer-introduce yourself, wash hands, explains procedure, pull
privacy curtain, locks bed and wheelchair for safety, brings resident to sitting position, feet flat on floor,
put on non-skid shoes, positons walker and stabilizes insures resident is stable, positions self behind and
slightly to side of resident, safetly ambulations resident 10 steps, assists resident to pivot and sit, using
, correct body mechanics, maintains respectful, courteous interactions all times, opens curtain, leaves call
light or signaling device in reach of resident, wash hands
Applying anti-embolic stocking, ted hose - Answer-introduce, wash hands, pull privacy curtain, explain
procedure, raises bed between mid thigh and waist level, provides privacy by exposing one leg, rolls,
gathers, or turns stocking down inside out to the heel, places stocking over the toes, foot and heel, rolls
or pulls up on leg, checks toes for possible pressure from stocking and adjusts as needed, leaves resident
with stockings that are smooth and wrinkle free. lowers bed, maintains respectful and courteous
manner, opens privacy curtain and identifies that you wash your hands
Bedpan or fracture pan and output - Answer-Equipment: 1 big towel, bedpan, 2 wash clothes, graduate,
chuck, TP gloves: introduce, explain, wash hands, pull curtain, gather supplies, puts gloves on, adjust bed
and puts chuck and bed pan, sits resident in a comfortable position, gives call light, TP and towels , RN
Will let you know when resident is done, candidate returns, lowers bed, gently removes BP, candidate
puts graduate on flat surface, reads, and records on sheet, must be within 25 mls, empties graduate and
rinses both, bed pan and graduate, assists resident to wash and dry hands, discards linen in container,
removes gloves, opens privacy curtain, gives call light and washes hands
Catheter care - Answer-equipment: basin, 3 towels, 4 washcloths, incontinent pad, bath blanket, gloves,
soap: introduce, wash hands, explains, pulls curtain, raise side rail on opposite side of working, fills basin
with warm water, raises bed mid thigh, places bath blanket on resident, puts gloves on, and turns
resident and place incon, pad under residents. Exposes only perineum, VERABLIZES/CHECKS THERE ARE
NO KINKS IN TUBING, USING SOAP AND WATER, CAREFULLY WASHING IN A CIRCULAR MOTIONS AND
HOLDING TUBE FROM URETHA washes 3-4 in down, uses a clean portion of wash cloth with every
stroke, pats dry all areas with clean towel, always rinses in the directions away from ureatha, does not
allow tubing to be pulled, replace top cover, over resident, and removes bath blanket and incon. pad
disposes of linens in the linen hamper, empties, rinses and dries basin, removes gloves, pulls curtain
gives call light and washes hands
Denture care - Answer-equipment: Towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, denture cup, gloves
knock, introduce, explains and washes hands, pull privacy curtain, line bottom of sink with actual towel,
puts gloves on and removes dentures from cup and dumps old water , puts toothpaste on tooth brush,
brushes inner, outer and all chewing surfaces, rinse, rinse out denture cup, replaces with cool clean
water, puts dentures back into container , cleans contain and dries toothbrush placing them in the
correct storage area, turns gloves inside out and throws away, maintains respectful interactions at all
times, pulls curtain back, gives call light, and washes hands
