Vectors in two dimensions (TERM 1)
1. Resultant: the vector sum of two or more vectors
2. Closed vector diagram: is s graphical representation of a system of vectors that add up
to zero.
Newton's laws and application of Newton's laws (TERM 1)
3. Normal force: the force or the component of a force which a surface exerts on an object
in contact with it, and which is perpendicular to the surface
4. Frictional force: the force that opposes the motion of an object, and which acts parallel
to the surface.
5. Static frictional force: the force that opposes the tendency of motion of a stationary
object relative to a surface.
6. Kinetic frictional force: the force that opposes the motion of a moving object relative to
a surface.
7. Newton's first law of motion: A body will remain in its state of rest or motion at
constant velocity unless a non-zero net force acts on it.
8. Inertia: the resistance of an object to any change in its state of motion.
9. Newton's second law of motion: When a net force acts on an object, the object will
accelerate in the direction of the force at an acceleration directly proportional to the force
and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
10. Newton's third law of motion: When object A exerts a force on object B, object B
SIMULTANEOUSLY exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on object A.
11. Newton's law of universal gravitation: Each particle in the universe attracts every other
particle with a gravitational force that is directly proportional to the product of their
masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers

12. Weightlessness: the sensation experienced when all contact forces are removed
Electrostatics (TERM 2)
13. Coulomb's law: The magnitude of the electrostatic force exerted by one point charge
(Q1) on another point charge (Q2) is directly proportional to the product of the
magnitudes of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance (r)
between them
14. Electric field: a region of space in which an electric charge experiences a force.
15. Electric field at a point: The electric field at a point is the electrostatic force experienced
per unit positive charge placed at that point.
Electric Circuits (TERM 2)
16. Ohm's law in words: The potential difference across a conductor is directly proportional
to the current in the conductor at constant temperature
17. Power: the rate at which work is done
18. EMF: the maximum energy provided by a battery per unit charge passing through it.
19. Internal Resistance : is the opposition to the flow of electric current within a cell or
battery
Electromagnetism (TERM 3)
20. Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction: The magnitude of the induced emf across
the ends of a conductor is directly proportional to the rate of change in the magnetic flux
linkage with the conductor
21. Magnetic flux : Is the product of the magnetic field strength , the area of the surface and
the cosine of the angle between the magnetic field and the normal of the surface
