Media
The media can have both positive and negative effects on sport. People that dont watch or
play sports will understand and are aware of sports through the media.

Positive influences:
● Raises awareness of sport
● Promote healthy active lifestyles
● Showcase sport’s positive values
● Motivate people to take part
● Introduces new supports to sport
● Publicise a variety of sports and activities
● Give the sport a high status in society
● Give people sense of belonging
● Generate revenue and attract investment for sport
● Generate revenue for charity

Negative influences:
● Intrude on performances privacy
● Undermine people's confidence and careers
● SHowcase negative values and behaviour
● Undermine officials and their decisions
● Edit coverage so it is incomplete or biased
● Reduce spectator attendance at live events

Television
Satellite television has helped football as you can watch matches in the comfort of your own
home as they are streamed worldwide on television. This has resulted in more participation
in the sport due to the increase in spectators. However, tv companies have been restricted
as to when they can stream a match. For example any 3pm kick off in the premier league is
never streamed on tv as they try to promote fans going to watch at stadiums. Spectatorism is
on the decline because of this and results in the clubs losing revenue and will affect the
atmosphere in the stadium. Advertising has an effect on football as if they are advertised on
tv then the clubs will receive more shares of the profits from the coverage which can then go
towards the the development of facilities or equipment.

Sponsorship affects football because if clubs have successful organisations sponsoring them
then more profit is going to be made from these sponsorship deals. The problem with
sponsorship deals is that if you are a smaller club there is no guarantee that anyone would
sponsor the club making it hard financially.

Punditry is the expression of experts' opinions. They debate about individual player
performances, transfer rumours and big issues. Match of the Day is a well known tv program
which is viewed by many across the country. It allows people to catch up with all the games
from the day and the experts analyse the game thoroughly and debate which gets more
