FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR

Colonists+British v. French Colonists+Native Americans
- Precursor to the American Revolution
- Each group had native american allies, but in general the french had better
relations with the native americans
- French were primarily traders, so they learned the languages and
intermarried
- British government signs agreements with the natives to set aside land,
which made things difficult because of the different cultural view when it
came to ownership
- And then the British broke the agreements with the natives

Crash course:

the time (colonies)

had been settling and the British government wanted to set up a mil. Base
- Mississippi river was a border (was considered French territory)
- “Fort Necessity”
- Builds the fort in a basin area (not good strategy)
- Also the basin ends up being a flood point
- As he is setting up the first he sends patrols (natives) they capture natives
and potentially a Frenchman, bringing them into the base for interrogation.
- Before the interrogation begins his native allies (enemies w/ french allies)
scalped the scouts.
- The people who died were a peace delegation to welcome the British, sent
by the french
- Way more french bases than British
- French retaliate against Fort Necessity, and it begins raining so gunpowder
is wet

the deaths
- G. W. signs it (he does not speak french, sent to Britain, King sends
General Braddock to go help, sent from England
- G.B. and G.W. go back to the territory
- G.B. only knows english warfare styles and gets killed quickly
- G.W. takes charge and wins the battle
Goodbye France

→After Effects
a. Once the war is over the colonists don't really need the British anymore
because the French do not pose a threat to their land.
b. After all the colonies (who have very stark differences and cannot see
themselves every cooperation) they begin to connect.
c. End result is a sort of cooperation between colonists.

rev.
- War is expensive, debt.
- Thought Process: British funded the war to protect the colonists and now
we can tax them (tea tax, sugar tax, townshend act… ect)
- Taxes leads to the war
- The British had also won the land but had no interest in defending it
- They don't want to spend money on soldiers to defend colonies from
