Definitions.
Apprehension - ANSWER The seizure, taking, or arrest of a person on a criminal charge
Ex: John was apprehended on a warrant
Arrest - ANSWER To deprive a person of their legal liberty by legal authority
Civil Law - ANSWER Laws concerned with civil or private rights and remedies.
Example: John and Jane are establishing a custody agreement regarding their 3 children
Non-example: John hit Josh and is being charged with assault
Complaint - ANSWER The pleading which sets forth a claim for relief
Damages - ANSWER Compensation recovered by a person who has suffered a loss
Ex: John's kids were playing baseball in the front yard, they accidentally hit Josh's
windshield. John has to pay for Josh's windshield.
Defendant - ANSWER The person defending their innocence / denying their guilt
Detention - ANSWER The act of keeping back a person
