including: Aspergillus spp, Coccidioides immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum
Aspergillus spp
Asperg. is a group of mycoses caused by unknown species of filamentous
fungus Aspergillus
Exogenous source is the source of infection
Pulmonary aspergillosis happens when a fungus ball grows in a cavity like
TB, pt can be asymptomatic or have a cough
Invasive Aspergillosis is caused by A. Fumigatus in immunocompromised
pts
Invasive Aspergillosis
caused by A. Fumigatus in immunocompromised pts
As the fungus grows in size, large amounts of tissue is destroyed
Treated with Amphotericin B
Allergic Aspergillosis
Occurs in pts with raised immunoglobin E lvls
10-20% of asthmatics react to A. fumigatus
Treated with corticosteroids
