Understanding
Introduction
The topic of this workshop will be an understanding of simple personal finance. Aspects
of personal finance will include a few areas from the basic (balancing a checking account) to
the complex, repaying a loan with a specific annual percentage rate (APR).
Learning Objectives
1. Learners will use a checkbook registry and statement. They will be required to balance
a checking account for a given month accurately.
2. Learners will use a calculator to determine the number of months it will take them to
repay a credit card purchase of $1,000 with an APR of 21% and a daily accrual of
interest if they pay $200 each month.
3. Learners will use a calculator to determine the number of months it will take them to
repay a loan of $2,000 with an APR of 15% and a monthly accrual of interest if they
pay
$100 each month.
Desired Outcomes
Upon completion of the purposed workshop, learners should be able to complete all learning
objectives accurately. Learners will be able to apply their understanding to many financial
situations they may encounter in the real world. Understanding the repayment of credit, and how
interest rates and accrual methods affect their money, will aid learners in future choices in any
financing issue.
