Definition of Family
Understanding the concept of family can be a complex task, as perspectives on
what constitutes a family vary widely among individuals, influenced by diverse cultures
and traditions. According to Sharma (2013), a family typically encompasses parents,
children, and other relatives. However, my understanding of family extends beyond
mere blood relations. To me, family includes those who offer unwavering support in
every facet of my life. This paper aims to explore the essence of family through my own
experiences, alongside insights from others, and to delve into contemporary theories
and statistical analyses related to family structures. To underscore my perspective, I
have included three illustrative photos in the appendices of this paper.
Definition of Family in Comparison to the Family Form in Canada
Families are what their members claim they are and are defined as groups of people
who rely on one another for financial, emotional, and physical support (Yulfa &
Herawati, 2017). My understanding of the family is very similar to that of Yulfa and
Herawati's description given above. The family consists of those individuals who are
always there for you and show you unconditional love and support in all your
endeavours, both physically and emotionally. It's not necessary to be linked through
marriage, blood, or adoption to be considered family.
I included three photographs that illustrate my viewpoint on family in the paper's
appendices, as requested. The first image, which can be seen in Appendix A, shows a
laughter- filled family reunion, symbolizing unity and tradition. Appendix B captures a
moment between friends, representing the family we choose. Appendix C portrays a
community event, highlighting the extended support network that is part of my broader
family in society. My upbringing and cultural heritage have greatly influenced my notion
of a family. I am an
