Answer-Active: weapon has a radar that is actively pinging the target an receiving back that signal in
order to find target's position on autopilot (Harpoon, AMRAAM)

Semi-Active: target is acquired by radar/electro-optical sensor from launch platform, the weapon then
receives that signal reflected from target and calculates position (NSSM, ESSM, HELLFIRE)

Passive: weapon only tracks from emitted energy from target: Noise radiation, Anti-Radiation (radio
frequency from target sensors), or infrared (exhaust) (RAM, SLAM-ER, JSOW)
