A&P I Exercise 23 Nervous System Lab
Axolemma - ANSWER-The cell membrane surrounding an axon; Is responsible to
maintain the membrane potential of the neuron.
Axon Hillock - ANSWER-Reside in the area of the neuron that connects the cell body
with the axon.
Cell Body - ANSWER-(aka, Soma) is the spherical part of the neuron that contains the
nucleus.
Collateral Branches - ANSWER-Any side branch extending from the axon of a neuron;
axon collateral; relatively rare and usually branch at more or less right angles from the
main axon.
Dendrite - ANSWER-Fine extensions, receptors portion of the neuron. Tree-like
structures
Myelinated Internode - ANSWER-The portion of a myelinated nerve fiber between two
successive nodes.
Neurilemma - ANSWER-The plasma membrane of a Schwann cell forming the sheath
of Schwann of a myelinated or unmyelinated peripheral nerve.
Synaptic Terminal - ANSWER-Specialized to release the electrical impulse of the
presynaptic cell. A bulb at the end of the axon which neurotransmitter molecules are
stored and released.
Synaptic Vessicles - ANSWER-A small secretory vesicle that contains a
neurotransmitter , is found inside an axon near the presynaptic membrane.
Telodendria - ANSWER-A distal branch of a neuronal axon that can further branch into
axon terminal.
