The TX Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and the TX Department of Public Safety
(DPS) transitioned to a new vehicle inspection and registration system requiring
motorists to display only the valid registration sticker on the windshield. The sticker
serves as combined proof of registration and inspection.
foot brake - answer must stop car within a distance of 25 feet at a speed of 20 mph
parking brake - answer should be adequate to stop and hold car
two headlights (one on each side of the front) - answer a beam indicator showing when
the high headlight beam is on
taillights - answer all vehicles must equipped with two taillights (cars manufactured
before 1960 are only required to have one taillight)
brake (stop) lights - answer all vehicles must have two working brake lights
- cars manufactured before 1960 are only required to have 1 brake light
- vehicles equipped with a third or high mounted stop lamp require all three to be
operational
license plate light - answer a white light that lights the rear license plate when the
headlights (or auxiliary lamps) are lighted
parking lights - answer white or amber on the front, red to the rear (may be combined
with other lights)
