Opening Statement:
I’m Rachel and will be your mediator today. You can address me as
Rachel. How would you like me to address you? My position is neutral, and
my only goal is to help you find a solution. We are meeting today to help you
work out an understanding to help you resolve your dispute. This meeting is
confidential, and any settlement agreement will be confidential. The goal of
this meeting is for both of you to find a solution you find satisfactory.
You will each explain your view on the matter to me, and then we will
identify your basic areas of disagreement.
It is important to set some ground rules for our conversation. I ask that
you do not interrupt each other when the other is speaking and avoid any
hostile language. Do you agree to these rules?
