Introducing a sustainable initiative within an organization can affect everyone in an
organization. The initiative being implemented into Merakey, a nonprofit organization offering
many different services to the community, is an electronic health information exchange.
Executing an electronic health records system or an EHR will have stakeholders, internally and
externally, that will play a key role in its implementation. A key stakeholder can be described as
someone who possesses valuable information regarding an EHR. How it performs, financial and
clinical performance are some of the knowledge they hold towards its success (Green, 2023).
Key internal and external stakeholders essential to this initiative’s success can vary based on the
division of services, but there are some stakeholders that work with all divisions. The main
internal stakeholder that will essentially work toward a successful initiative are the IT department
individuals. IT departments usually are the group of individuals who oversee the implementation
of any new technology based system because they have the knowledge of how to navigate and
integrate digital systems. Another group of essential key stakeholders that help with a successful
initiative are the clinical staff, such as nurses and administration. These individuals are usually
the ones who retrieve medical records for patients and will have a clear idea of the training
needed for all staff members to be able to bring in new software (Wysochi, 2023). External
stakeholders that bring success to the implementation of an EHR are pharmaceutical companies.
By having an EHR in an organization, it makes it easier for physicians to prescribe medication to
pharmacies electronically, versus having to send paper prescriptions. This will make for a huge
success and quicker transition period. Organizations establishing an EHR would have a huge
benefit from collaborating with pharmaceutical companies. Merakey has a pharmacy that
delivers medication to patients, sometimes on the same day. By having an electronic system in
