Direct Instruction - correct answer-Teachers give explicit, structured instruction using
uniform lesson plans. Exploration, discussions, etc. are excluded. Direct instruction is
among the few scientifically confirmed ways of improving curriculum.
Indirect Instruction - correct answer-Is student-centered and interactive; teachers
facilitate small-group and cooperative learning. Students construct or transform material
into new or different, meaningful responses.
Critical Thinking - correct answer-Includes the abilities to question, evaluate, and judge
information or material For example, students should learn to distinguish opinions from
fact in what they read and hear; look for evidence supporting author or speaker
arguments, or lack thereof; evaluate supporting evidence, etc.
Creative Thinking - correct answer-Includes thinking generating original ideas, coming
up with problem-solving alternatives that differ from usual solutions, applying knowledge
in novel ways and context, and divergent thinking.
Questioning - correct answer-Promotes inquiry learning; gives students purposes for
reading; focuses attention on learning targets; fosters active thinking, metacognition,
and self-monitoring; augments comprehension, and helps students review new material
and connect it to their previous knowledge.
Inductive Reasoning - correct answer-Is a bottom-up, specific-to-general process,
beginning from accumulating specific observations or information; identifying regularities
or patterns; and ultimately drawing general conclusions or principles.
Deductive Reasoning - correct answer-Is a top-down, general to specific process;
beginning from a general theory, principle, or field of observations, information, and data
to confirm or refute the theory; and draw a specific conclusion.
Problem-Solving - correct answer-Involves identifying a problem, generating alternative
solutions, testing these through implementation, and evaluating their effectiveness.
Experiential Learning - correct answer-Is a student-centered, activity-oriented
instructional strategy whereby students use inductive reasoning to discover information
and insights. Process takes precedence over product. Activities involve hands-on
learning. Rather than passively listening to teachers, only reading text, or viewing a
