What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a service that enables users or companies to post their web pages onto the
internet. Web hosts are businesses that provide services needed to allow websites onto the
internet. Web hosting companies offer services like: shared hosting, dedicated server hosting,
virtual private server, cloud hosting and managed hosting. These websites are then stored in the
server, to obtain access to these websites all you would have to do would be to search for the
website address or domain. The computer will connect to the server which would then allow your
website to be seen by you through the web browsers. With hosting companies, you can buy your
own domain which allows you to host your website. A couple of examples of web hosting
companies are GoDaddy, HostGator, etc.

(HTTP) to host the files that make web pages useable, when a web page they want to see is
requested -these requests are sent to web server in packets. Web serves store websites and when
you search for a website through its addresses or domain then your computer will connect to the
website. A web server can be in software and hardware form , when software and hardware are
combined they work together to make sure that the website that is searched is delivered to the
client. If a web server is the hardware form it is a computer that stores the software of the server
and files that make up a website . This web server is connected to the internet and allows devices
to interchange data when connected on the web. In software form , web servers control how the
users access hosted files – these web servers are HTTP servers that is software that can
understand URLs (web addresses) and hypertext transfer protocols.

The internet is the network of many computers that are interlinked together through copper , fibre-
optic cables , etc. It is the most fastest network in the world, it contains components like email ,
fibre-optic , World Wide Web- web pages that are can accessed via the internet , etc. The internet
can be used by users through web browsers where they are enabled to surf which means to
browsers the internet. The internet also uses the TCP/IP protocol -this allows computers to
communication with other computers. People can access the internet using broadband, 3G , etc .
The internet can be used to for search information like the news through a search engine e.g.
Yahoo , to be able to communicate with people from a remote location e.g. messaging a friend that
lives in France on Facebook or to do online banking e.g. checking bank balance. The internet has
allowed us to do things the easier way e.g. able to transfer money without going to the bank but it
comes at cost as using the internet can also have disadvantages e.g. cyber bullying , hacking , etc.
