Ensure websites are ranked higher even it their not exactly what your looking for either
A lot of sites which contain poor quality information
Click farms: businesses that use groups of low paid workers to repeatedly click on links to fake
high web traffic
Customized searches: collect data about you, google is able to track everything you search
Context aware search: where you are at this moment e.g., pizzeria location
Mediate searches: online dictionary, compile lists of sites that are useful and up to date
Model 1: use volunteers to link sites on specific topics to check quality, create and
indexed list of sites to provide users with lists of links that match their queries
Model 2: bookmarking and social aggregation, users are continually indicating their
likes and dislikes
Semantic searches
Semantic web: we can add (very detailed) metadata to web pages that will allow the computers
to try to make sense of the information on the page
