NOTICE: the lecture notes are mostly a redacted version of the slides, as they were very comprehensive and barely anything was added. development as guided intervention: reaching humanitarian goals through
intervention, now it’s becoming more bureaucratic with proven results

development as a discourse : language isn’t neutral, study that to see how the
world has developed

development =/= Development aid= foreign aid isn’t part of development itself, is
not considered part of development studies. Other flows are more important (eg
remissions, tax evasion…)
