Aprepitant (Emend) - answer-Dose: 40mg PO
Frequency: within 3 hours of anesthesia
ETC: neurokinin-1 receptor antagonist; NOT FOR EXISTING NAUSEA
Dexamethasone (Decadron) - answer-Dose: 4 mg IV over 1-4 minutes
Frequency: Single prophylactic use
ETC: glucocorticoid
Dexmedetomidine (Precedex) - answer-Dose: 1mcg/kg bolus over 10 minutes
Infusion Rate: 0.2-0.7mcg/kg/hr
Onset: 1-3 minutes
Duration: 3-5 minutes after infusion stopped
ETC: for short-term sedation for mechanical ventilation; alpha-adrenergic agonist
sedative-hypnotic; off label use for pain relief and shivering, use in pediatrics
Diazepam (Valium) - answer-Dose: 2-10mg IV (less that 5mg/minute)

ETC: peripheral vasopressor, increases heart rate, bronchodilator; adverse reaction
of headache and tachycardia
Esmolol (Brevibloc) - answer-Dose: 500 mcg/kg over 1 min, the infusion 50-300
mcg/kg/min

ETC: for SVT, tachy,hypertension
