Hx of Medicaid
Affordable Care Act (ACA) The comprehensive health care reform law enacted in
March 2010 (sometimes known as ACA, PPACA, or "Obamacare"). ... The law
provides consumers with subsidies ("premium tax credits") that lower costs for
households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level.

If you're unemployed you may be able to get an affordable health insurance plan
through the Marketplace, with savings based on your income and household size.
You may also qualify for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the
Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Social security regulates Medicaid. Who is eligible

For people below poverty line. May depend on state and city rates guidelines

For low income indv that otherwise don't qualify. Eventually federal govt backs off

, and states pick up larger percentage of bill, state taxes. Some states say we cant
afford this.
-Expand medicare - tht even more people qualified.
-
-States like alabama. Poor state in general. Cant say we cant extend medicafe, cant
tax them anymore. Not as much options for those who don't qualift before. Mediaid
services may be more blunt, catagsropic. Not like dental.
-
-Shared responsbiity. Inequities.
-
-
-Up to state as the specifites of eyes and etc. for medicare.

Medicaid Benefits and difference
Medicaid is a jointly funded, Federal-State health insurance program for low-income
and needy people. It covers children, the aged, blind, and/or disabled and other
people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments.

Thirty-two states and the District of Columbia provide Medicaid eligibility to people
eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. In these States, the SSI
application is also the Medicaid application. Medicaid eligibility starts the same
months as SSI eligibility.

The following jurisdictions use the same rules to decide eligibility for Medicaid as
SSA uses for SSI, but require the filing of a separate application: Alaska, Idaho,
Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Northern Mariana Islands

The following States use their own eligibility rules for Medicaid, which are different
from SSA`s SSI rules. In these States a separate application for Medicaid must be
filed: Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire,
North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Virginia.
