when can a pt. choose voluntary hospitalization? - Answer-At any time, they can sign something and are
given a provisional diagnosis to be admitted.
when would a pt. be involuntarily hospitalized? - Answer-if the pt. can't afford it they might choose
"involuntary," or if they are seen as a risk to themselves or others they might be involuntarily
hospitalized
What is the "fifth standard"? - Answer-a family member/friend may "petition" for a chapter based on
their observations to admit someone. They need three witness.
What is the probable cause hearing? - Answer-happens within 72 hours of admission. pt. appears
before a judge to get legal counsil. Judge may dismiss them or come to an "agreement" if pt. agrees to
90 days of treatment. Or they may commit the pt. if they are still unsafe and order 2 full psych evals.
What is the final commitment hearing? - Answer-- either dismissal again
