Assignment #9
Cultural Awareness
Based on the cultural awareness survey, I decided to ask one of my siblings to participate
in order to get their outlook and personal experiences with said issue. Moreover, she stated that
this survey allowed her to see how open she is about different cultures and in learning about
them over time. She also acknowledged the fact that even though she doesn’t find herself
thinking about these difference often, she is very open to understanding how each culture has
their own values and practices because it allows her to love everybody differently and respect
them for it.
In addition, she stated that she has never really never experienced any form of “cultural
consideration” during any healthcare visits, in any practice that she has been seen in. It seemed to
bother her as she thought more about the experiences, stating that she felt it was extremely
inconsiderate of those looking to treat her because all it took was simply asking if there was any
cultural, or religious beliefs that required more attention during these visits to ultimately set the
tone.
