Minnesota cosmetology laws and rules
A board of Cosmetologist Examiners is established to consist of 7 members, appointed by governor as
follows - Answer-(1) 2 cosmetologists, one of whom is recommended by a professional association of
cosmetologists, nail techs, and esti's
(2) 2 school instructors, one of whom is teaching at a public cosmetology school in the state and one of
whom is teaching at a private cosmetology school in the state
(3) 1 esthetician
(4) 1 nail technician
(5) 1 public member
Manager - Answer-Any person who is a cosmetologist, esthetician, advanced practice esthetician, nail
tech, or eyelash tech practitioner, and who has a manager license
Reinspection fee - Answer-$150
practitioner, manager or instructor license fee - Answer-$195; $155 for initial license and $40 for
application fee
, Practitioner renewal fee - Answer-$115; $100 for renewal and $15 for application fee
Manager or instructor renewal - Answer-$145; $130 for renewal and $15 for application fee
Salon license fee - Answer-$350; $250 for license and $100 for application fee
Salon renewal fee - Answer-$225; $175 for renewal and $50 for application fee
School license fee - Answer-$4000; $3000 for license and $1000 for application fee
School renewal fee - Answer-$2500; $2000 for renewal and $500 for application fee
Fee for manager and owner with expired practitioner found on inspection - Answer-$150 each
Fee for expired practitioner or instructor found on inspection - Answer-$200
Fee for expired salon found on inspection - Answer-$500
Fee for expired school found on inspection - Answer-$1000
Fee for failure to display current license - Answer-$100
fee for Failure to dispose of single use equipment, implements, or materials - Answer-$500
Fee for use of prohibited razor-type callus shavers, rasps, or graters - Answer-$500
