, PURPOSE AND PERSPECTIVE OF THE CHAPTER
The purpose of this chapter is to describe how organizations have to keep pace with current issues
related to quality, technology, diversity, globalization, ethics, and the environment. This requires
managing both change and resistance to change. All organizations experience external and internal
forces for change. There are numerous organization development (OD) interventions available to
managers. Diagnosis and needs analysis are essential first steps in any change management effort.
CHAPTER OBJECTIVES
The following objectives are addressed in this chapter:
18-1: Identify the major external and internal forces for change in organizations.
18-2: Describe how different types of change vary in scope.
18-3: Discuss methods organizations can use to manage resistance to change.
18-4: Explain Lewin’s organizational change model.
18-5: Explain how companies determine the need to conduct an organization development
intervention.
18-6: Discuss the major group-focused techniques for organization development intervention.
18-7: Discuss the major individual-focused techniques for organization development intervention.
