HYPERTENSION
Known as the silent killer because it is frequently asymptomatic until it
has become severe and damage to organs have occurred
Signs and symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Reduced activity tolerance
- Dizziness
- Palpitations
- Angina
- Difficulty breathing
What is hypertension:
Is an abnormally high pressure in arteries
Blood pressure is measured by how much blood the heart pump and
the amount of resistance the arteries provide against the flow of
blood
The more blood the heart pump and the narrower the arteries the
higher the blood pressure
High blood pressure over a number of years can cause damage to
the blood vessels and heart
This can eventually lead to:
Coronary heart disease
Heart attacks
Strokes
Renal disease
