HYPERTENSION
Known as the silent killer because it is frequently asymptomatic until it
has become severe and damage to organs have occurred
Signs and symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Reduced activity tolerance
- Dizziness
- Palpitations
- Angina
- Difficulty breathing

What is hypertension:
 Is an abnormally high pressure in arteries
 Blood pressure is measured by how much blood the heart pump and
the amount of resistance the arteries provide against the flow of
blood
 The more blood the heart pump and the narrower the arteries the
higher the blood pressure
 High blood pressure over a number of years can cause damage to
the blood vessels and heart

This can eventually lead to:
 Coronary heart disease
 Heart attacks
 Strokes
 Renal disease

What happens:
 The organs and tissues in your body need oxygen to survive
 Oxygen is bound to your body and is delivered toy your body by
blood vessels
 When your heart beats it creates pressure that pushed blood
through your arteries and veins
 Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against your blood
vessel walls
