Ambulate Resident - answer1. Introduce self, explain what you're going to do, wash
hands, close curtain, gather supplies.
2. Make sure resident has on non-skid footwear.
3. Apply belt before standing resident, over clothes, around waist, make sure it's secure.
4."On 'GO!' I'll have you stand alright?"
5. Bend knees and grasp back of gait belt with both hands, arms around resident's body
6. Have resident place their hands on your shoulders and tell the resident you will assist
them to stand on "GO!"
7. Lift up and toward your body gently, in a smooth motion.
8. Stand still and ask if the resident is dizzy or uncomfortable
9. Walk slowly behind and to one side of the resident, matching the resident's pace.
10. Ask if resident is feeling fatigue, dizziness or discomfort
11. Position resident facing you with back of knees against chair seat.
12. Face resident, place arms around resident's waist, grasp gait belt. Have them place
their hands on your shoulders.
13. Tell them you'll be lowering them into their chair on "Ready, GO"
14. Gently lower resident into chair
15. Leave resident in chair in proper body alignment and hips against back of seat.
16. Open curtain and close out skill

Assist the Resident with a Bedpan - answer1. Open skill
2. When you close the curtain make sure you lower the head of the bed.
3. Cover resident with bath blanket,ask resident to hold blanket while you pull down
sheets.
4. Apply gloves, and place chucks over bottom sheet, under buttocks/upper thigh area,
on center of bed.
5. Position bedpan on chucks under resident with wider end up toward the back. The
part of the bedpan that looks like a toilet seat goes under the resident's buttocks.
6. If resident can bend knees and lift hips, slide bedpan under hips and position
properly.
7. Remove gloves.
8. Raise head of bed after positioning bedpan
9.Place tissue within reach and leave call light.
10. Lower head of bed.
11. Apply gloves and hold front of bedpan down and ask resident to lift hips.
12. Remove my bedpan and chuck's carefully. Wrap chucks around bedpan
13. Empty contents of bedpan into toilet (note color, odor, consistency and size) Rinse
and treat like any other basin
14. Remove and dispose of gloves
