Briefly explain a camera obscura
- One of the original sets of a modern camera, used in a dark area with a small hole for light to
peak through with an inverted image of the outside view being projected somewhere, on
something such as a screen.
Describe the art of Jacob Riis on page 150
- The art is communicating the social issues and the need for safety laws to be enforced. It uses
flash photography show heavier detail and also a shocking appeal and monotone figures to show
the sadness and awful way of living.
Why is photo 9.15 art and not just a photo?
- It’s material based to show perspective, it’s not just a natural catch in a moment. The artist used
sheets of photosensitive paper on a shallow point and flashed lights through to show a landscapes
of a new kind. It’s pushing the limitations of photography’s assumed limits.
