Perfusion - ANSWER The supply of oxygen to and removal of wastes from
the cells and tissues of the body as a result of the flow of blood through the
capillaries.

Oxygenation - ANSWER The ability of the lungs to draw air from the
atmosphere, filter it, and provide oxygen as the end product to the blood
while removing carbon dioxide as the air passes through the lungs.

Position to assess the heart - ANSWER -Sitting or supine at 30 degrees.

-Lying on left side/leaning forward

Inspection of the heart - ANSWER -Observe the neck and precordium for
visible pulsations.

-Inspect the epigastric area at the tip of the sternum for pulsation of the
abdominal aorta




palpation of the cardiovascular system - ANSWER -Palpate the carotid artery
medial to the sternomastoid muscle in the neck b/t the jaw and the clavical

--Note the strength of the pulse and grade it (1-4)

-Gently palpate the precordium for pulsations

-Palpate in a systemic manner, assessing cardiac landmarks

--Note size, duration, force, and location in relationship to the midclavicular
line

-Palpate peripheral pulses: brachial, radial, femoral, popliteal, dorsalis pedis,
posterior tibial (strength and symmetry).
