Basic ECG Interpretation Study guide
Basic ECG Interpretation
-Normal conduction system = electrical impulses
-Components of an ECG complex
-Determining rate & regularity
-Measuring intervals (PR, QRS & QT)
-Identify: Normal Sinus Rhythm, Sinus Bradycardia, Sinus Tachycardia
& Sinus Arrythmia & Treatment for each
Conduction System of the Heart
Cardiac Conduction System
"Primary Pacemaker" of heart's conduction system?
-SA node: 60-100
Inherent Rates
, -SA Node: 60-100
-AV node: 40-60 (can take over when SA node fails)
-Purkinje Fibers: 15-40
ECG Complex
-Bottom line = "isoelectric line"
-Waves should leave isoelectric line and come back to it
-Each box represents 0.04 seconds
-K+ inside cardiac cells and Na+ outside cardiac cells; this switches
when we have electrical movement (e.g., atrial depolarization)
P Wave [Atrial depolarization]
-The P wave indicates atrial depolarization or atrial
contraction or SA node activity
-So if the question is "How long does it take the atria to depolarize?" -
look at the P wave and count the boxes!
PR Interval (PRI) - [Start of Atrial depolarization to start of Ventricular
depolarization]
