Just because something is legal doesn't mean its ethical. - Question and answersEven
if we do not believe there is a written law against our actions, and it is legal, does it
make it ethical? The world of law is smaller than the world of ethics. You can follow the
law and still do something unethical. MLK said in the Birmingham Letter "Just because
it's legal doesn't make it right"

MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" - Question and answersSpring of 1963- King on
tour of cities in the South. Goal was to speak out against school integration. (1954-
SCOTUS ruled that Southern schools has to integrate repealing the separate but equal
ruling. 9 Years after the ruling, southern states still refused to integrate.) Southern
leaders said they were protecting state's right against overbearing federal government,
but really was a cover-up for prejudice.

Dr King said he was going to speak at Birmingham, Alabama. City leaders felt
threatened and wanted a way to stop him from speaking. King was protected under 1st
Amendment of Bill of Rights but the leaders got around this by enforcing an old law that
said you need a permit for a "parade".
