LESSON ONE
Development of Literary Theory
The idea of Art. When talking about Art, we are simply looking at four things. One
, is Art in the society. What is this Art talking about the society? In which way is
this Art portraying the society? The society needs art.

The other thing is the artist. What does Art talk about the artist? Also, the creation
and the text itself. Creation involves imagination. the Art should also show what
kind of audience its trying to reach. All this is what we call the Theory of
reception.

Evaluation
Literature should help us understand the truth, the reality, and how it’s created. It
shows the reality in our society, fidelity to what exists. It also helps us to
understand the creators of the works of arts, like Autobiography of Ngugi wa
Thiong’o. it helps us understand the work of art through texts, understanding the
creative process that which activates artist. For example, writing poems. When
explaining the mind of an artist, we learn and appreciate work of art or what we
call Literary Theory. We also look at the history of time, like the times of war. We
also look at the form, texture, and style of work.
