What did many doctors think and why? Many doctors thought it was a punishment to
women , no one had ever seen bacteria or viruses so it was hard to think it was caused by
something they couldnt see.

few days after giving birth, nobody knew what caused it.
What did semmelweis notice about his medical students? That they went straight from
dissecting a dead body to delivering a baby without washing their hands. He wondered if they
were carrying to the cause of disease from the corpses to the patients.
