ADDA DRAFTING CERTIFICATION; COMPETENCY 9
(REVOLUTIONS)
Revolution - ANSWER rotation of an item to show true length at an angle in
one view (foreshortens rest); used to avoid the requirement for supplementary
views. The view that is revolved is always the one where the axis is shown as a
point and the view is not changed in shape and size; in views where the axis
shows a line, the dimension parallel to the axis remains constant.
The viewing plane is the plane from which an object is viewed (front, top, right
side, etc.).
The primary revolution happens at a different angle than the initial revolution.
consecutive revolutions -- ANSWER view projected from an initial revolution
or other revolutions
aircraft - Answer Three non-linear points in space, two non-parallel intersecting
vectors, two parallel vectors, or a line and a point not on the line
genuine size - ANSWER surface is shown in its actual size; the plane is parallel
to the plane of projection.
Path of Revolution - ANSWER
True length line - ANSWER ALWAYS parallel to the reference plane in ALL
adjacent views; actual size of line; to find, draw view of line where reference
plane is parallel to an adjacent view of the line.
real angle - the angle created by two intersecting planes, given in its actual
measure.
The dihedral angle is the angle between two intersecting planes.
, corrected length - ANSWER (What is the length of an irregular arc segment?)
Helix - ANSWER curve generated by line looping around a shaft; curving path
that a point would follow if it were to go in an even spiral around a cylinder and
parallel to that cylinder's axis.
revolved view - ANSWER view produced from the revolution of an item
Axis of Revolution – ANSWER line from which angle of revolution is
measured; depicted as either point or line, depending on view.
Fold line - ANSWER Where perpendicular viewing planes meet along the
straight edge of junction.
Reference plane - ANSWER What is a plane that is parallel to the inclined
surfaces; displayed as real length edge; utilized to lay off measurements to
generate auxiliary and rotated views?
ANSWER: parallel and perpendicular If a line is positioned ________ to a
projection plane and the line of sight is ________ to that projection plane, the
line appears to have real length.
Point - ANSWER If the line of sight is parallel to a true-length line, the line will
appear as a ________ view in the adjacent view (any adjacent view of a line's
point of view will reveal the true length of the line).
edges, configuration - ANSWER Planar surfaces of any shape are always
represented as ________ or surfaces of similar ________.
