Summary of SOLE Activities
Self-Organised Learning Environments (SOLEs) are a unique and innovative approach
to teaching and learning, where the primary focus is on student-driven exploration and
discovery. In SOLEs, learners are grouped into teams of four, each equipped with an
internet-enabled laptop. These groups are tasked with answering complex, open-ended
questions like "Why do we slip on wet surfaces?" or "Do trees breathe?". The learners
are given a set amount of time to research, discuss, and prepare a presentation to
share their findings. What's striking about SOLEs is the minimal guidance from
teachers. After providing the initial question and resources (such as computers),
teachers step back and allow the students to navigate their learning journey. This
method encourages independence, critical thinking, and collaboration among students
as they collectively find answers to challenging questions.
Advantages and Disadvantages of SOLE Activities
