Fundamentals of Computer Organization

Embedded computer system - A dedicated computer system with a limited or
non-existent user interface and designed to operate completely, or largely,
autonomously from within other machinery.
Hardware - The physical part of the computer system
Software - The set of instructions which make the computer system do something
useful
Input Device - A piece of hardware that allows data to be transmitted to the CPU
Output Device - A piece of hardware that translates signals from the computer
into a human-readable form or into a form suitable for re-processing by the
computer at a later stage
Storage Device - A piece of hardware which can store data outside the processor
in a form which is suitable for input back in to the processor
