Process to insert NG tube - answer✔✔1. make sure both nares patent
2. assess gag reflex- necesarry to swallow
3. auscultate abdomen for bowel sounds
4. place in upright position
5. towel over chest
6. measure from tip of nose to earlobe to xiphoid process (this is how much tube will be inserted)
7. mark with tape
8. spray lidocaine
9. lubricate
10. go in to nares- have patient tilt head back until get to nasopharynx and then have patient put
head down and swallow (have patient take sips of water and advance each time she swallows)
