Restraint technique: physical, chemical & psychological
Physical: muzzles, slip-leashes, cat bags, cat friendly: handling cats in a certain way not causing more
fear/stress (towels, e-collar/cones, crate), ropes, e-collars, halters, snares, twitch, squeeze chutes, tilt
table
Chemical: drugs; sedatives (more calm, don’t completely fall asleep) different than tranquilizers (not
moving)- need pain control with tranquilizers
Intravenous (IV- in the vein)
Intramuscular (IM- in the muscle)
Subcutaneous (SC or SQ- under the skin)
Per os (PO) by mouth/orally)
Don’t neuter dog (young age) could = testicular cancer
Not spayed- uterine infection
BASIC ANATOMY
Caudal- near rear end
medial- towards midline
lateral – away from midline
ventral- underside
- Sternal: sternum
- Sternal and ventral can be used interchangeably
recumbency- lying down
proximal- toward torso
distal- away from torso
, Rostral- tip of muzzle
Jugular vein: neck
Top of paw is dorsal and limb
Cephalic vein: thoracic (front) limbs- runs dorsal
Saphenous vein: pelvic (back) limbs
- On medial aspect of thigh is cat
- Dog is lateral
Front legs: thoracic limb
Back legs pelvic limbs
