Prescriptives/PKs are: ANSWER Typically grade-level, can be seen in the
beginning of a student's packet, focusing on weaker skills.
They contain instructional pages to help guide instructors and students.
The final page of a PK segment is a mastery check.
Focus Ons/FOs are additional practice, not necessarily grade level, that provides
greater depth on a subject rather than enabling the student to progress too far into
other disciplines.
A code is located at the bottom of the page.
Workout Book/WoB - ANSWER Based on a student's understanding of number
sense, this course focuses on their number sense, mathematical thinking, and
problem-solving abilities.
Has a spot for star punch at the top of each page.
The Learning Plan/LP is: ANSWER Created after each student's evaluation; they
take their initial one after joining the center, then re-assess as needed, at which
point they will get a new LP.
LPs determine what the student already understands, what they need help with, and
what they will be working on.
Checkups - Answer Focus on grade-level skills and topics.
Mastery Checks (MCs) - ANSWER Determine whether a student is prepared to go
on to the next subject.
, The student must finish the MC independently and answer the majority of the
questions correctly on the first or second attempt.
Found near the end of each group of PKs.
Encourage them to correct/check their own work.
Have a challenge section so they can gain extra stars.

Socratic questioning is - ANSWER Asking pupils questions to comprehend things
themselves.
Should be done when the student has some prerequisite knowledge and can figure
out certain things on their own.
Direct teaching is the answer. A lecture style that should last approximately 1-2
minutes for younger pupils or 3-5 minutes for older students, educating them
directly about the math.
Should be utilized when the student requires further explanation, such as with a
completely new subject.
How does Mathnasium Hour work? - ANSWER The Mathnasium hour is divided
into Check-In, PK's, WoB, HW (occasionally on the backside), and Check-Out on
the Session Wheel. The spinner is set to the student's check-in time to track how
long they've spent on each subject, allowing instructors to monitor transitions and
ensure they've spent the appropriate amount of time on everything and that the hour
runs well.
What occurs at check-in? - ANSWER The instructor notes the check-in time,
homework information, and PK/FO/WoB goals for the session.
