echoic behavior - verbal behavior is under the control of verbal stimuli, the response generates a
sound pattern similar to that of the stimulus. it is reinforced when it continues to reinstate the stimulus
and to permit the speaker to react to it in other ways.
verbal behavior - defined as the behavior of an individual which achieves its effect on the world
through someone else's behavior. its reinforcement is thus indirect, whereas nonverbal behavior
achieves its effect by directly manipulating the environment
total verbal episode - the behaviors of speaker and listener taken together compose this
vocal verbal behavior - executed by the diaphragm, vocal cords, false vocal cords, etc.
operant - any unit of behavior and is interchangeable with response.
listener - reacting to verbal stimuli
mand - verbal operant in which the response is reinforced by a characteristic consequence and
therefore under the functional control of relevant conditions of deprivation or aversive stimulation. it is
characterized by the unique relationship between the form of the response and the reinforcement
received in a given verbal community
echoic repertoire - established in the child through educational reinforcement
textual behavior - this may be in the form of pictures, pictographs, hieroglyphs, characters, letters,
symbols. a speaker under the control of a text is a reader. it is first reinforced for educational reasons.
verbal behavior - in all verbal behavior, stimulus, response, and reinforcement need to be taking
into account.
