Alternator - The electrical device driven by the engine that recharges the battery. It produces
alternating current using rotating field coils inside stationary stator windings
Accessories - Parts that add to the appearance or performance of a vehicle
Accounts Receivable - Money due from customers
Accumulator - Part of an air conditioning system that contains a desiccant that absorbs moisture
from the refrigerant
Active accounts - Current customers who make frequent purchases
Active stock - Merchandise in the store that is readily available for sale to customer
Air conditioning (AC) - A system that removes moisture and humidity from the interior of the
cabin and cools the cabin lower than outside ambient air temperatures. A/C is also used to help defrost
the front windshield
Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) - Compares the weight of air to the weight of fuel that best operates the
gasoline engine
Air injection reactor (AIR) - An emission control system that pumps air into the exhaust system to
burn hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide coming from the engine
Air pump - Part of the air injection reactor (AIR) system that forces extra air to mix with the
exhaust gases
Assembly line data link (ALDL) - A 12-pin connector used on OBD-I equipped vehicles. OBD-II
engines use a 16-pin data link connector ((DLC)
