Possition A group of tasks assigned to one individual. (can be replaced. example one RN can be replaced by another RN. Professionalism The demonstration of highlevel personal, ethical, and skill characteristics of a member of a profession. Behavior and or characteristic you have in your profession. Behaviors and attitudes exhibited by an individual that are recognized by others as the traits of a professional. What is the Power Approach of Profession? The approach that bases judgement of a profession on the independence of practice and the power of the occupation. What is the trait approach? The Approach that nursing most closely meets the criteria to be deemed a profession. What do responsibility and accountability do in nursing in regard to profession? Increases the independence of nursing as a profession How much independence of practice does this occupation have? (Under the power approach) Nurses do have some independence or autonomy, but we still require provider orders. Nurse Practitioner's are autonomous and can write their own orders. In regard to the power approach How much power does the Nursing occupation control? Nurses do not weld much power according to the power approach. (Power is how much political power do nurses have and how much income do we make. The more money the more power. Nurses do not make a lot of money) Does nursing meet the criteria for the Power approach to a profession? Income ? NO Autonomy? Not fully Power? NO Medicine, law, politics *they make more $ and have political pull. Politics Process of influencing the decisions of others and exerting control over situations or events; includes influencing the allocation of scarce resources. Accountability Concept that each individual is responsible for his or her own actions and the consequence of those actions; professional accountability implies a responsibility to perform the activities and duties of the profession according to established standards. Code of Ethics Written values of a profession that act as guidelines for professional behavior. Assessment Process of collecting information about a client to help plan care. Patient Client; an individual seeking or receiving healthcare services. License Permission to practice granted to an individual by the state BON after he or she has met the requirements for that particular position; licensing protects the safety of the public. What is Licensure? Establishes a minimal level of competency for practice. Regulation/Registration State board of Nursing: is who regulates people with licenses. If a nurse mess up they will have to go to the board and the board will decide what to do with the nurse. Fines, registration list, take your license away etc. This is a record that will stay with the nurse. If they go to license in another state say TX, they can go on and look at registration, current license and anything that they have on your record. Rules or orders issued by various regulatory agencies, such as a state board of nursing, which have the force of law. What is Altruistic?
