By Replacing The Articles Of Confederation, The Federal Constitution Strengthened The Central Government As Precisely As Possible Explain How This Was Done Based on our textbooks, the Articles of Confederation’s replacement, especially with the national constitution, intended to solve the previous system’s weakness by strengthening the federal government (Foner et al., 2023). The articles led to a weaker central government, making the state governments more powerful than the central government. The state governments also remained independent and sovereign under the Articles, with Congress as the last authority when resolving the conflicts. Therefore, these articles needed to be replaced with a constitution to strengthen the federal government in the following ways. First, integrating the Supremacy Clause strengthened federal law supremacy, making the central government more potent than the states government and its laws. It also consolidated the power, particularly at national levels. This ended the decentralized authority, which the Articles of Confederation highly emphasized. The Clause ensured the treaties, federal regulations, national laws, and constitution had superiority over all state regulations (Foner et al. 2023). Moreover, the clause enabled the Supreme Court to assist in formulating a firm federal government, which was impossible under the Articles since they never allowed the federal statute to supersede state laws. Secondly, the development of the judiciary system at the federal level strengthened central government. For instance, the Supreme Court resolved disputes between individuals and states.
