To carry out this mission, OSHA is responsible for promulgating legally enforceable standards. Explain in detail three basic causes of accidents. - ANSWER-Accidents occur for three main reasons: chance occurrences, unsafe working conditions, and unsafe acts by employees. Chance occurrences - ANSWER-An accident that occurs.......(such as walking in the park just as a tree branch falls) contribute to accidents but are more or less beyond management's control. Unsafe working conditions - ANSWER-_____is the main cause of accidents, i.e. faulty scaffolds, improperly guarded equipment, frayed wiring, unsafe storage, improper ventilation, etc. Unsafe acts by employees - ANSWER-Accidents that are impossible to prevent, as no one has a surefire way to eliminate the following unsafe acts; throwing materials, operating or working at unsafe speeds, making safety devices inoperative by removing, adjusting, or disconnecting them, and lifting improperly. Explain how to prevent accidents at work. - ANSWER-Employers must take a multifaceted approach in preventing accidents. For example, reducing unsafe conditions, using personal protective equipment, reducing unsafe acts, use screening to reduce unsafe acts, use posters and other propaganda, provide safety training, and improve productivity through HRIS: internet based safety improvement solutions.
