Joint Intelligence •Provide information and assessments to facilitate mission accomplishment •This role is supported by a series of specific responsibilities to guide the intelligence directorate of a joint staff (J-2) and supporting organizations. Responsibilities of Joint Intelligence - Inform the commander - Describe the Operational Environment - Identify, define, and nominate objectives - Support the planning and execution of operations - Counter adversary deception and surprise - Support friendly deception efforts - Assess the effectiveness of operations Joint Intelligence Responsibility 1: Inform the Commander •J-2 analyzes the Operational Environment •Produces assessments to support the commander Joint Intelligence Responsibility 2: Describe the Operational Environment (OE) •Conditions, circumstances, and influences •Affect the commander's Course(s) Of Action (COA) Joint Intelligence Responsibility 3: Identify, Define, and Nominate Objectives: •Clearly defined, achievable, and measurable objectives •JFC's mission, intent, and resources •Enhance insight into the threat and adversary's intentions, end states, objectives, most likely and most dangerous COAs, strengths, and critical capabilities •J-2 recommends objectives, requirements, and centers of gravity (COGs) Joint Intelligence Responsibility 4: Support the Planning and Execution of Operations •Intelligence used to plan, direct, conduct, and assess operations •Identifying and selecting specific objectives and targets •How to accomplish the JFC's overall mission •J-2 supports the execution of the plan with the strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence
