P1
In this part of the assignment I will be going to write an essay which identifies a wide
range of influences that may affect people’s learning. I will be explaining the possible
effects of these influences and referred to theories of learning.
The key influences on the learning process of an individual could be: family, friends,
media, teachers, work, health, culture, discrimination, motivation, lifestyle choices,
bullying and material resources.
Family
Family can help if they encourage problem solving, reading, creativity and seeking
answers, they can make learning a positive experience. The positive effects of family
learning influence are that it makes school a more positive experience. Studies have
shown that parental involvement can help encourage a child to be a better student.
Providing a nurturing, calm, stable home environment can help the child feel secure
and allows them to focus on learning.
As I was doing my research I found that research shows how children’s well-being
and development are influenced by the engagement of both mothers and fathers.
Children are more likely to learn when they have structured home environments
with clear expectations about learning but adapted to child-specific needs and
personalities. Engaging in extracurricular activities and parental involvement in
schooling both show positive results, but they are beneficial particularly when they
are consistent with the goals and activities of the school. The negative effects of an
uninvolved parent simply remove himself as an authority figure and doesn't take an
interest in his child's life, leading to a child who is permissive and undemanding in
disposition as well.
Friends
The positive effects of having friends are giving you support when needing, it helps to
bring out the best of you, they can be your role models, they can help you to reach
your dreams, friends can influence you learning by giving you advice and support you
in time of help. The negative influences of friends on the learning process are: to
encourage you to gossip about your other friends, to gamble or spend money you
don't have, to make choices that will hurt you or your family, to engage in
illicit/illegal activities, wearing the same clothes as your friends or look a certain way,
drinking, smoking or taking drugs, changing your friends/partner because your
current friends don’t like them, you are forced to bully others and you skip lessons or
not going to school.
