(P3) Terrorist groups and terrorist attacks are ever growing and becoming more popular within our world.
Terrorist attacks can include assassinations, bombings, suicide attacks, biological and chemical threats,
hijackings, kidnappings and finally hostage takings. As well as terrorist methods in this writing, I will also be
talking about many different terror organisations. These establishments includes Al Qaeda, the IRA (Irish
Republican Army) and Aum Shinrikyo. Furthermore I shall be discussing counter-terrorism methods such as;
undercover operations, training for attacks, controlling of immigrants, maintaining security, awareness,
campaigns and advertisements, building relationships with other ethnic communities, educating the public on
terrorism, co-operating with anti-terrorist authorisations. Then finally finishing off the essay with the
effectiveness of international counter-terrorist methods, including financial measures, sports and trade
knxcjkbndjkgrestrictions/ sanctions, straight retaliation and US-led wars on terrorism.

The number of terrorist attacks has dramatically risen as the years has progressed. In the year 2012 there were
6,771 attacks across the world with 11, 098 people being injured or dying, this has risen to 11, 072 attacks with
25,621 casualties and deaths in the year of 2016. Therefore, in 2016 there were 4,031 more terrorist attacks
and 14,523 more deaths/ casualties than in 2012.
Bombing.
The first terrorist method is bombing. Bombing is where some terrorists uses explosives in order to kills/ harm
or scare civilians. They perform these acts of terror in order to prove to people that their belief system is
superior to all other religions, faiths or political beliefs. Bombings are one of the most used and common
methods of terror as explosives now days are easy to get a hold of and you can even make bombs at home
using ordinary household items. Common a bombing technique used by terrorist groups is holding explosives
within a car or some kind of vehicle; the IRA frequently used car bombs. However, other groups such as Al
Qaeda, and ISIL (the Islamic state) also used this type of attack. As well as car bombs there are suicide bombers
used also, these people have a bomb strapped to them and it is their ‘duty’ to ensure that the bomb is
detonated at the scheduled moment given to them by their leader. Sadly, this results in the bomber also being
blown up with the explosive. An example of this is when two people wearing suicide belts in Ankara and killed
102 people and injuring more than 500 people.

An assassination is when a person or a group purposely murders a person in order to express their power and
to spread fear so that people will not challenge them and will see them as the superior force. Assassinations
can be performed in many ways including shooting, bombings and running someone over using a motor
vehicle such as a car. One example of assassination is the murder of Jo Cox. Jo was a labour MP (minister of
parliament) who was campaigning to stay within the EU (European Union). She was killed a man who believed
white people are superior to all other races murdered her and that she was corrupting his country murdered
her. His name was Thomas Mair; he shot her twice in the head, once in the chest and then carried on to stab
her fifteen times the whole time screaming how he was doing this for Britain.

believe that they are dying for their cause and pleasing their gods/god. This then leads them to believe that
when they die they will automatically go straight to heaven or their religions version of the ‘promise land’ as y
giving their lives they are heroes. Suicide bombing began in Lebanon in the 1980’s as it is a powerful and
extremely dangerous form of terrorism the ‘trend’ spread all through the globe and most terrorist
organisations wanting to jump onto the band wagon. This form of attack is seen as one of the most harm
inflicting kind of terrorist movement as by attaching large amounts of explosives to a person means that
wherever they go they will always be able to harm and kill people. In addition, it can be fatal when
organisations recruit more than one suicide attacker, this is as it then covers a larger area of land, which means
